TRAVEL ABROAD OPPORTUNITIES
Teachers for Global Classrooms is a year-long professional development fellowship, sponsored by the United States Department of State and administered by IREX, International Research and Exchange. Aspects of this program include an on-line global education course with classroom integration, a two-day in-person seminar and a 2-3 week field experience in one of several countries. The Fulbright programs US Department of State offers several opportunities for teachers to live and study abroad. The National Endowment for the Humanities offers tuition free opportunities for educators to study a wide variety of humanities topics. Fund for Teachers allows teachers to design their own fellowships to help impact student achievement. Global Education for Educators runs travel programs for teachers. The Goethe Institute Transatlantic Outreach Program offers teaching materials, professional development workshops and study tours as well as having a Fellow of the Year. The Keizai Koho Center, part of the National Association of Japan-American Societies as an annual teacher fellowship. The Korea Society has annual fellowships in Korean studies for teachers. The National Council on US-Arab relations has several study abroad opportunities. Primary Sources offers tours for educators and administrators to deepen educators’ knowledge of the world. The Program for Teaching East Asia conducts projects to enhance and expand teaching and learning about East Asia. Rotary meetings allow people to meet and discuss global issues with global residents and includes travel. South Africa Partners fosters partnerships between the USA and South Africa and hosts annual educator tours. Volunteers for Peace offers affordable adventures abroad |
CLASSROOM PROJECT RESOURCES
iEARN has a goal of connecting all schools in the US to other schools in the world. Students collaborate on projects. ePals is a site that allows students to connect online and do projects. Global Education is an Australian site that provides a global curriculum and resources for teachers TGC Fellow Stephany Anderson from Wyoming has created a comprehensive list that can be found here.
